The Power of All-Weather Tyres

The Power of All-Weather Tyres
The changing seasons may prove to be a challenge for any driver, but a factor to make the whole experience easier is safer is using the right kind of tyre for the job. Some of the options available in the market are all-season tyres, all-weather tyres, summer tyres, and winter tyres. From their names alone, you’ll be able to infer that they are designed with a kind of weather phenomena in mind and should only be used under such circumstances.

Among the four types mentioned, two of them can be especially confusing as they sound as if they function similarly. Contrary to what its name implies, however, all-season tyres are more suited to three out of the four types of seasons — spring, summer, and autumn. Using them during harsh winter days can prove not only to be difficult for the driver, but also unsafe as they do not have the proper technology to maintain traction on slippery, icy, or snowy roads.

All-weather tyres, on the other hand, are specially designed for all seasons and all kinds of weather. This kind of tyre is made from an intermediate rubber compound that offers excellent grip on both summer and winter roads. They work better than all-season tyres on roads that are icy, snowy, and wet.

Another notable feature of the all-weather tyre is its high-density sipes, which are the hook-shaped or bracket-shaped grooves in the tyre treads. These provide an interlocking grip that is required to keep you safe when you are driving through icy conditions, as they provide extra traction and prevents skids effectively.

While all-weather tyres cannot beat summer or winter tyres on their performance during their respective seasons, all-weather tyres are the only kind that you can use all-year round. It especially outperforms all-season tyres, which, as mentioned before, only function excellently in three seasons. These tyres have consistent, all-around performance, even compared to the specialised tyres, though they might do so well if there are exceptionally harsh summer or winter conditions in a location. Still, they are the only tyres that you aren't required to replace once a season ends, meaning that you can use them for a long time if you keep up with regular maintenance.
